  • PATERNOSTER BEACH

(15km from St Helena Bay)

If you’ve ever been to Paternoster, the standout will be the endless stretch of deserted white sandy beach. Think spectacular sunsets, succulent West Coast seafood, brightly painted wooden boats and friendly fishermen. Paternoster happily remains an easygoing fishing village where you can buy freshly caught crayfish from locals off the boat.

  • WEST COAST NATIONAL PARK

 (50.3km from St Helena Bay)

The West Coast National Park stretches from Yzerfontein up to the edge of Langebaan and surrounds most of the enormous Langebaan Lagoon. Just a one-hour drive north of Cape Town lies this watersports junkie’s paradise offering awesome kayaking, snorkelling and some of the best windsurfing and kite surfing on the planet.

During summer, migratory waterbirds flock in thousands from as far away as northern Eurasia. In the middle of the lagoon is Schaapen Island, a bird sanctuary that is off limits, but you can paddle close to it and watch the garrulous marine birds. The park is also a great place for hiking and cycling.

Eland and small animals are easily spotted but the star attraction is the spring wildflower spectacle, particularly in the Postberg section. Kraalbaai has a few lovely houseboats for rent and there’s a superb restaurant at Geelbek. Bicycles and canoes can be hired in Langebaan.

  • WEST COAST SHOPPING MALL
(18.8km from St Helena Bay)

For far too long have shoppers from the West Coast been forced to leave the coast in search of choice and beauty in foreign towns! The unnecessary travel will now be a thing of the past because the West Coast finally has a retail offering with all the major brands under one roof which is featured in Weskus Mall.
